Israel Mobilizes Reservists as Offensive Expands Beyond Iran, Lebanon
Military intelligence units initiated the reserve mobilization to ready forces for “additional theaters of operation and an expansion of the war,” sources said. The army indicated that the reservists would reinforce multiple sectors under “Operation Roaring Lion,” the code name for its current offensive against Iran.
Early Monday, the Israeli military announced the launch of an “offensive battle” targeting the Lebanese group Hezbollah in Lebanon. Airstrikes struck southern Beirut suburbs and other areas in southern Lebanon, reportedly killing 31 people and wounding 149, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
Hezbollah stated that it fired missiles and drones at an Israeli military site in retaliation for repeated attacks on Lebanon by Israeli forces and the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Since Saturday, Israeli and US strikes on Iran have killed hundreds of people, including Khamenei and other senior officials. In response, Tehran has launched missiles and drones against Israel and US interests across several Gulf nations.
Washington and Tel Aviv argue that Iran’s nuclear and missile programs pose a threat to Israel and its regional allies, while Tehran maintains its nuclear program is peaceful and does not aim to produce nuclear weapons.
