Israeli Soldiers Injured by Hezbollah Drone Strike in Lebanon

(MENAFN) Two Israeli soldiers were wounded after an explosive drone struck during military operations in southern Lebanon, the Israeli army confirmed Tuesday — the latest flare-up testing a fragile ceasefire between the two sides.

A military statement said the incident unfolded Monday, leaving one soldier severely wounded and another lightly injured "as a result of an explosive drone impact during operational activity in southern Lebanon." Both were evacuated to a hospital and their families have since been notified, the military added.

Hezbollah moved quickly to claim responsibility, announcing Monday that it had carried out two separate drone strikes targeting Israeli soldiers and military equipment. The Lebanese group said the attacks were a direct response to what it described as Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement reached earlier this month, including strikes on southern villages and the demolition of residential homes.

The exchange of hostilities comes as the human toll of the broader conflict continues to mount. According to Lebanese official figures, more than 2,500 people have been killed and over 1.6 million displaced by Israeli attacks across Lebanon since March 2.

A 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel took effect on April 17, and was extended by three weeks last Thursday — an agreement now under visible strain as both sides trade accusations of violations in the volatile south.
