Lebanon Reports Widespread Housing Destruction Amid Post-Truce Strikes

(MENAFN) Authorities in Lebanon say tens of thousands of residential units have been damaged or destroyed since a ceasefire agreement linked to the Israel-Hezbollah conflict came into effect, according to reports.

The head of Lebanon’s National Council for Scientific Research said that more than 10,000 housing units have been affected, including thousands of buildings that were completely destroyed and additional units that sustained partial damage.

According to reports, the destruction has continued despite the ceasefire, with ongoing airstrikes and military activity in southern regions contributing to continued civilian infrastructure losses.

Lebanese officials also reported continued casualties during the same period, stating that hundreds of people have been killed and over a thousand injured since the truce began, including both civilians and emergency responders.

The country’s health ministry has described the situation as a continuing humanitarian crisis, citing repeated strikes affecting residential areas and emergency response operations.

According to reports, humanitarian organizations have raised concerns about the impact on children, noting that young civilians have been among those affected in the ongoing violence since the ceasefire took effect.

Officials have also reported a higher overall death toll since the broader conflict escalated, including civilians, women, and children, as well as medical and emergency personnel.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has vowed continued resistance and rejected calls related to disarmament, while tensions remain high along the southern border.

According to reports, Israel maintains that it retains the right to respond to perceived security threats under the terms of the ceasefire arrangement, while exchanges of fire and military operations continue to strain the agreement.

The situation remains unstable as both sides continue to accuse each other of violations, raising concerns about the durability of the ceasefire and the risk of renewed escalation.
