Lebanese President, PM Discuss US-Hosted Military Talks with Israel

(MENAFN) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam held discussions on Saturday regarding ongoing military negotiations with Israel, according to a statement from the Lebanese presidency.

According to the presidency, the Lebanese delegation participating in the talks "reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing a ceasefire."

The two leaders also reviewed preparations for the next round of US-mediated discussions with Israel, which are scheduled to take place next Tuesday and Wednesday.

In addition to the negotiations, the meeting focused on Lebanon's internal security conditions and efforts to monitor the situation of residents who have been displaced from their homes and properties as a result of the conflict, according to reports.

The latest discussions follow a meeting hosted by the United States Department of Defense on Friday that brought together military delegations from Israel and Lebanon in support of ongoing peace efforts between the two countries.

Reports indicate that Beirut and Tel Aviv have already held three rounds of direct talks since mid-April.

The diplomatic contacts are taking place amid continued Israeli military operations in Lebanon despite a ceasefire that came into effect on April 17 and was later extended into early July following previous negotiations.

According to reports citing Lebanon's Health Ministry, Israeli attacks carried out since March 2 have resulted in more than 3,350 deaths across the country.
