UN Security Council Is Set to Discuss Lebanon Situation on Monday
According to reports, the session was requested by France, which has described Israel’s ongoing military operations in Lebanon as “extremely concerning.” French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot made the formal request on Sunday, urging urgent international attention as strikes continued despite a ceasefire that began on April 17 and was later extended for 45 days after indirect US-mediated talks.
Diplomatic sources said Russia strongly supported France’s call for the emergency meeting, reflecting wider international concern over the situation.
According to Lebanese health authorities, Israeli strikes since March 2 have resulted in more than 3,370 deaths and over 10,000 injuries, highlighting the scale of the ongoing violence.
The Security Council is also expected to address a separate incident involving a drone strike in Romania during the same session, held at the request of Bucharest.
According to reports, Romanian officials said a Russian drone hit a 10-story residential building in the early hours of Friday, causing an explosion and fire that injured two people.
The upcoming meeting is expected to focus on both developments as tensions continue to rise across multiple regions, drawing increased attention from international diplomats and UN members.
