Netanyahu Orders Strikes in Beirut Suburb as Ceasefire Tensions Escalate

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the military to carry out strikes in Beirut’s southern Dahiyeh district, escalating tensions despite an existing ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.

According to statements attributed to Netanyahu, the decision was made in coordination with Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, with orders given to target what were described as “terrorist targets” in the area. The Israeli leadership claimed the action was in response to what it called repeated violations by Hezbollah of the ceasefire.

The move comes even though a US-mediated truce was implemented on April 17 and later extended into early July.

As stated by reports citing the Lebanese Health Ministry, Israeli operations since March 2 have resulted in more than 3,400 deaths across Lebanon.
