Israeli Strikes Kill 17, Wound 64 in Lebanon Despite Ceasefire

(MENAFN) At least 17 people are dead and 64 others wounded after Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks struck multiple locations across southern Lebanon on Tuesday — even as Lebanese and Israeli delegations held ceasefire talks in Washington.

Lebanon's Health Ministry confirmed five fatalities and 48 injuries from strikes hitting the towns of Burj al-Shamali, Abba, and Tebnine.

Among the dead were a dentist, his son, and his daughter, killed when an Israeli drone struck their vehicle on the Nabatieh–Khardali road, according to state news agency NNA. A separate drone attack claimed the lives of two Syrian laborers at a plant nursery in Jebchit where they were employed.

Additional strikes proved equally deadly: two people died when drones hit a motorcycle in Toul and a vehicle in Ansar, while another drone strike at the Harouf-Toul roundabout killed the driver of a targeted car, NNA reported.

In Tyre district, two people were killed in a strike on Shhour. A subsequent attack on Burj al-Shamali left two more dead and 14 others wounded. Israeli warplanes also destroyed a Lebanese Civil Defense facility on the Masil road in Kfar Sir — a center that NNA noted had been evacuated days prior. A residential strike in Tyre's al-Hosh neighborhood demolished a home and damaged surrounding properties; two survivors were pulled from the debris and rushed to hospital.

The Lebanese army reported that two of its soldiers sustained moderate injuries after an Israeli drone struck the Habboush-Deir al-Zahrani road in Nabatieh.

Tuesday's bloodshed unfolded as officials from both countries convened their fourth round of US-brokered negotiations in Washington, aimed at reinforcing the ceasefire and resolving unresolved security disputes.

Despite the truce — which took effect April 17 and was subsequently extended by Washington through early July — Israel has maintained near-daily strikes and ground incursions into Lebanese territory.

Lebanon's Health Ministry reports that Israeli military operations since March 2 have killed 3,468 people and left 10,577 others injured nationwide. Israel continues to occupy multiple zones in southern Lebanon, including areas held for decades alongside territory seized during the 2023–2024 conflict, with forces having pushed several kilometers beyond the Lebanese border during the current escalation.
